The Adventure Twins

Two little boys named Austin and True,
Had two little blankies clean and new,
Along came a wind,
And blew them on end,
Up high in the air and off they flew.
The boys ran hard and looked at the sky,
The boys ran fast with both eyes up high,
The blankies blew wild,
The blankies blew mild,
Austin and True tried hard not to cry.
They ran past fields and ran past the hills,
They ran past streams and ran with their wills,
The blankies came down,
So far from our town,
Into a pond past ducks and their bills.
The boys arrived just in time to see,
The blankies sink underneath the sea,
They stopped for a look,
And that’s all it took,
Into the water they leaped with glee.
Back on the shore with blankies in hand,
They breathed heavy and they tried to stand,
True fell on his first,
Austin fell the worst,
They lay asleep with eyes in the sand.
Red, green, yellow, purple, pink, and blue,
Rainbow colors that all seemed so new,
Floating softly now,
Flying away ... ”How?,
Where are we going? ... We wish we knew.”
“Look up ahead, the buildings are tall,
Look down beneath, the people are small,
We are falling now,
Softly down somehow,
New York City! ... Where Yankees play ball.”
Ellis Island is where they did land,
They saw a huge lady on a stand,
She had a green glow,
And spiked hair, you know,
And the liberty torch in her hand.
"Little Annie's cast...let's give them a hand!"
They took a cab and then the subway,
They rode it all the way out to Shea (Shay),
Then, they saw the Mets,
Then, they saw the Jets,
At the Meadowlands and yelled “HOO-RAY!!”
At Strawberry Fields, they had a ball.
Police and Fireman, “Make’em proud!”
They were lost for a minute or two,
Going through Times Square, but so were you,
The boys awoke with stars in their eyes,
They’d seen central park and a high rise,
“How did it happen?,
Here now, and there then,
Blankies ... magic ... wonderful and wise."
That night the boys were tucked in their bed,
Clinging to blankies that they had said,
Would take them away,
Here they go ... O.K.,
Here comes red, green, and blue ... sleepy head.
“Look up ahead ... buffalo and deer,
Look down beneath ... huge mountains appear,
We are falling now,
Softly down somehow,
Denver, Colorado! ... We are here.”
"Silver and gold in this mining town,
The likes of the famous Molly Brown,
Onyx is very rare,
Who is buried there?,
Ol’ Buffalo Bill is six feet down."
“If the first cheeseburger was made here,
And the U.S. Mint is very near,
And Pike’s Peak is high,
And Red Rocks near bye,
America ... beautiful ... we cry.”
“Hey, True, are we really a mile high?,”
“Yes, Austin, we are up in the sky,
They have great honey,
And it’s so sunny,
The thin air makes my skin very dry.”
Cowboy twins with promises to keep,
Riding their horses without a peep,
Tuckered out are they,
No yelling, “Hoo-ray,”
The old Brown Palace is where they sleep.
True and Austin awoke for the day,
What fun they had when they were away,
Denver was so great,
Meat from elk they ate,
“This means that at bedtime we can play.”
They talked and talked until late that night,
Waiting for the time to be just right,
They dozed off and then,
Awoke in their own den,
“What happened,” said True with all his might.
Austin said, “True ... the blankies are clean,”
True said, “Oh yes ... I see what you mean,”
Do you think ... the pond,
Might there be ... no wand?!,
Magical water is what we’ve seen!”
They raced all the way back to the pond,
Knowing it was water, not a wand,
With water so clear,
And heaven so near,
That night, they went to places beyond.
Red, green, yellow, purple, pink, and blue,
Rainbow colors that all seemed so new,
Floating softly now
Flying away ... “How?
“Where are we going? ... We wish we knew.”
“Look up ahead, it’s the Astrodome,
Look down beneath, it’s NASA’s first home ,
We are falling now,
Softly down somehow,
Houston, Texas! ...Where the cattle roam.”
The boys came down in a real fun town,
Large is big and no person will frown,
“Listen to my drawl,”
“Howdy partner ... Ya’ll,”
Astro-turf is all over the ground.
"The Republic of Texas, by name,
A nation for 10 years, just the same,
Santa Anna, no,
At San Jacinto,
You saw how Sam Houston took his aim."
"The biggest rodeo of the year,
We have only the biggest things here,
Medical cen-ter,
The biggest by-fer,
The bayou city is big, my dear.”
"Space Center Houston, Ya’ll need to see,
And so much oil, It’s called Texas Tea,
Tex-Mex is the best,
From east to the west,
So call up the Texas Calvary."
The boys woke up at home the next day,
Their brains were filled with the Houston stay,
A lesson they learned,
So not to get burned,
Don’t let mom clean your blankie today!
